Curse

He barks loud, howls fierce
Desperate to find a safe place
As his shield of paranoia and fear
keeps the secrets that push people away

She counts the days and nights
In which she saw a flickering light
From behind his heavily guarded heart
It was dim but that’s alright

Mistrust and disguise
That he wears like an armor
All the time
As he paints people like how he sees them

Smiles that cover lies
Root of evil planted deep
The darkest of secrets haunt his nights
More and more power he seeks

She takes his hand and reaches
Though she knows he doesn’t let anyone in
But in the safety he dreams
All he wants is a family

All he ever wanted
From the moment he was freed
Out of suffering and torments
Into a lifetime of a curse that can’t heal
